Course Title: 40-Hour Performance-Based Mediation Skills Training

The Center for Conflict Resolution’s (CCR) 40-hour Mediation Skills Training is designed to provide the basic techniques needed to mediate disputes as well as to complement the skills used by participants in their current occupations. The training focuses on the negotiation and communications skills used by mediators to move effectively through the stages of the mediation process.

Course Title: The Art and Science of Advanced Family Mediation Issues

Course Description (according to the course provider)

Becoming a successful family mediator requires not only the knowledge of legal policies and procedures but also creative solutions to every family’s unique situation. This five-day program will build on the participants’ divorce mediation skill set through in-depth explorations of the following topics:

• Cultural Issues in Mediation
• Designing a Parenting Plan
• Property, Maintenance, and Child Support in Divorce Cases
• Mediating Financial Matters in a Divorce
• Domestic Violence

Students may register for individual days or the program or attend all five days. Students who attend the entire program can receive a certificate in Advanced Family Mediation Issues from Northwestern University.

Mediation Council of Illinois

The Mediation Council of Illinois (MCI) is a professional membership organization that provides the general public with information about family mediation and family mediators throughout the state of Illinois.

Those mediators who are listed on the MCI Referral Directory have met MCI’s membership requirements for education and training, and agree to abide by the MCI Professional Standards of Practice for Mediators. MCI provides continuing education opportunities and skill building seminars for mediators to continue to enhance and advance their skills and techniques.

Association for Conflict Resolution - Chicago Chapter

The Association for Conflict Resolution Chicago Area Chapter brings together the local dispute resolution community. Their membership represents both experienced professionals and newcomers working in a wide variety of dispute resolution areas, as well as attorneys who want to learn more about the value of ADR and when to recommend its use.

Members include mediators, arbitrators, advocates, consultants and academics interested in employment/labor, family, civil, consumer issues and all areas of practice.

Course Title: Family and Divorce Mediation Certificate Program

Course Description (according to the course provider)

This 40-hour certificate program provides attorneys, therapists, counselors, financial planners, and others interested in the field of divorce mediation with skills and substantive knowledge. Participants will learn the skills and information necessary to become a more effective advocate or participant in mediation processes. Instructors make extensive use of exercises, videos, role plays and group discussion.

The program has been approved by the Academy of Family Mediators/Association for Conflict Resolution and is accepted by local courts for family mediation rosters.
