This training is designed for those who have completed the 20-hour Basic Mediation Training. The Family Mediation Skills Training has been certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia, Office of Dispute Resolution.

Course Title: Domestic Mediation Training

The training will prepare mediators to assist community members in resolving conflicts that occur in divorce; custody, parenting and other family issues. Topics include: process of divorce, assessing power imbalances and assisting parties through mediation in an emotionally charged environment.
This 14 hour course provides skills and techniques for domestic mediation. It also provides certification for anyone who wishes to become a trained volunteer domestic mediator for West Hawaii Mediation Center.

The Family Mediation Training is a minimum of 30 instructional hours over a four day period. Participants build on their Basic Mediation Training and focus on parenting plans. The training also touches on property, finance, and child support issues. Role plays cover parenting plan issues and the initial private session.
Completion of this training satisfies the training requirements for mediators established in the Nebraska Parenting Act including the family violence screening and awareness requirement.
Prerequisite — ODR approved Basic Mediation Training is required prior to taking Family Mediation Training.
